Bendigo Festival of Croquet flourishes

On Sunday 20 August the NDCA completed a very successful four day tournament, with two days of  Golf Croquet followed by two days of Association.

We were very pleased with the response, though sorry we could not accommodate all the would-be GC entrants. We had a lot of last year's players and were pleased also to see new ones.

Preparing the courts

Our Northern Districts Croquet Association president Bill Humphreys worked tirelessly to make sure the courts were in the  best  condition after such a wet winter.

Our four clubs in Bendigo each took a day catering for the players - each day was a different menu. Compliments to them all, the food was superb and plenty of it.

GOLF

We had five blocks for GC. Each Block was keenly contested with some winners winning on hoops.

The Thursday started with bright sunshine 20 deg but on Friday the heavens opened and the players played in rain all day. This did not deter them, everyone finished.

Block 1, for 0 to 5 hcp players, was won by our VCA Treasurer Brian Rowe (Essendon) from last  year's winner Graeme Jones (Maryborough).
Block 5 was mainly new players some playing their first tournament. All enjoyed the experience. A few of these will progress to the NDCA pennant season which starts shortly.

ASSOCIATION

The AC weekend started with a cold morning but only light showers, however with about an hour to go on Sunday the heavens opened again on us. Most were finished by then but it made cleaning up very difficult.

The winner of the of AC section 1 was Bob Roycroft (Geelong Eastern Park) from local player Rod Kirk (Golden Square).

RESULTS

Detailed results can be seen on croquetscores.com.

We are keen to keep running a tournament every year, as long as we have the courts available. Thank you to all who support us.
