Kyneton info

Our Colours are Gold with Royal Blue lettering. Our Season starts in the 1st week of September and runs till the following May. We play casual Golf Croquet (casual dress) on Mondays 1pm to 3pm and 9.30am to 12 noon on Fridays (in whites). On the 1st Friday of the Month we hold our Club Meeting at 10am and then play starts at 1.00pm. We play Golf Croquet (casual dress) on Mondays & Fridays 1pm to 3pm in the break (late May tilll September).

We play Association Croquet on Wednesdays and Saturday afternoons at 1pm to 3pm. We have In-Club Tournaments in Golf Croquet and Association Croquet. We are a happy group of players and at the moment we have more Golf Croquet players than Association players, with some players playing both games. We all feel that as long as we have happy members then whatever we play is ok.

The game of Croquet was played in Kyneton as early as 1866. A Croquet Club was listed in Stevens Kyneton, Malmsbury and Taradale Directory of 1866. In 1876 a Bowling and Croquet Club was formed and played on the present Bowling site but was put into recess in 1914 because of World War 1. The Bowling and Croquet Clubs restarted in 1920 but because of limited playing space in 1929 land was purchased by the Croquet ladies on the corner of Ebden and Donnithorne Streets, on which lawns were laid and a pavilion was erected.

The Croquet Club re-opened on November 2nd 1929 and became Incorporated in 1984. There has been fluctuating membership over the years and most who join enjoy the challenge of croquet. We introduce beginners via Golf Croquet with very good results. We have a mentor system whereby prospective members are looked after by one member socially until they settle in. Tuition is readily available.
